oil on wood, 7″ x 9″, 2017
This painting was made at the Charles Allis Art Museum in the bedroom of Charles Allis. Painting in an institution has a set of challenges that a private residence doesn’t. The main challenge is overcoming the institutional quality of the unnatural lighting and the somewhat sterile nature of public institutional spaces. House museums are no different. Here I decided to use the shadows from the spotlights to add compositional drama.
Includes medium walnut finish maple float frame with hanging hardware installed, so that you can hang it up immediately.
