Bronze Bear
oil on wood, 7″ x 9″, 2017
This painting was made at the Charles Allis Art Museum in the bedroom of Charles Allis. Painting in an institution has a set of challenges that a private residence doesn’t. The main challenge is overcoming the institutional-ness like the unnatural lighting and the somewhat sterile nature of public institutional spaces. House museums are no different. Here I decided to use the shadows from the spotlights to add compositional drama.
